Simone’s Market

At the corner of Oak & Dublin, Mayer Building Company completed Simone’s Market in time for the 2016 Christmas Season. The work consisted of building out a full commercial kitchen and attractive grocery in the white box/shell at 8201-8207 Oak that Mayer completed in early 2015. The work consisted of new MEP systems, a new commercial hood and Ansul system, sprinkler modifications, and minor finishes. The Times Picayune┬áin a December 21st 2016 article has more.

“Folks strolling down Oak Street have been peeking in the windows of Simone’s Market, which will sell mostly locally and regionally sourced produce, meats and prepared foods, for months as it has come to shape inside retail space at 8207 Oak St. The 1,650-square-foot store, which employs 11 people, will open Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Owner Simone)Reggie … has been on the city’s food scene since 2011. She worked with the John Besh Foundation, co-founded and then sold her shares in the Cleaver & Co. butcher shop; and she helped launch Good Eggs farm-fresh delivery service, which closed in 2015. It was at Good Egg that she developed relationships with area farmers and food makers, whose food she plans to sell. Ashley Roussel, who most recently worked as executive chef of the Saint Street Inn in Lafayette and Runaway Dish, a nonprofit that supports South Louisiana culinary resources, will make the prepared foods. The store will have a grand opening in mid-January, Reggie said.” – Ann Maloney, Nola.com
